Even at its best, life is full of challenges no one prepares us for. Sometimes our plans don’t work out, or our relationships are complicated. Sometimes we’re not even sure what the plan is, or we feel like our brains are working against us and don’t know where to start. We might be so good at carrying things alone that the thought of even talking about what bothers us feels strange and scary. I believe this is where meaningful counseling starts: with a genuine human connection, in a place safe from the judgment and pressure of the outside world, where you can explore who you are, where you’ve been, and who you want to become.
I work from a person-centered approach that focuses on supporting clients to understand their experiences, recognize their strengths, and move toward who they are and the life they want to have. Through understanding themselves, I believe people can live more authentically, become more fulfilled, and find peace even when it seems like it’s hiding, and there’s no greater gift than being a fellow traveler along that path.
I’ve worked with clients across the lifespan, including individuals with developmental disabilities and people navigating a wide range of challenges, needs, and life experiences. Counseling looks different for everybody, so I draw from several approaches depending on your needs. However, one truth has remained consistent across my clients: people can heal within relationships that are consistent, compassionate, and trusting, even when the odds are stacked against us.
I think you can too, and when you’re ready, I’ll be here.
